The Other Wilderness

THE OTHER WILDERNESS is an upmarket coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of Utah's rugged Escalante Wilderness in 1995.

Eighteen-year-old Taylor, desperate to escape his abusive past, enrolls in a grueling survival course led by the enigmatic Jennifer, a former reality TV star, and her manipulative producer husband, Erwin. As Taylor battles the harsh desert environment, he confronts deeper challenges: the taunts of his male peers, the rejection of the sole female participant, and the unraveling of his carefully constructed identity. When a life-or-death crisis pushes everyone to their limits, Taylor must confront his past, learn to trust others, and forge a new path forward.

Drawing on my personal experiences as a mountaineering instructor, Outward Bound trip leader, and survival course participant, I’ve crafted a story that explores themes of nature, survival, and the human spirit. Comparable titles include The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
